The premier league takes place between August and May in England, and involves over 380 games across all teams. There are 20 clubs taking part in the 2025/26 season. The top five teams, by the end of the league, move on to the Champions League. The champion of last season, Manchester City, is currently sitting in second place to Arsenal, after a disappointing turnout of their last three games.
Currently Arsenal has 50 points after 22 games, appearing more mature and tactically disciplined than previous seasons. The head coach, Mikel Arteta, has shown remarkable consistency, along with the help of star player Declan Rice and captain Martin Odegaard.
Defending champions Manchester City are currently tied for second place with 43 points. In contrast to their success in the beginning of the season, they have recently been stalled by a series of difficult results, most notably being a 0-2 loss to Manchester United.
Under Man City, this season’s greatest surprise is Aston Villa out of Birmingham. Against all statistical expectations, head coach, Unai Emery has led Villa to third place, mostly thanks to Emiliano Martinez who has had a countless number of game changing saves.
Brentford has been a wildcard this season. They’ve had some great showings like their 3-2 win against Liverpool back in October, and although they lost, they put up a good fight against top teams Man City and Arsenal. However they’ve disappointed their fans when playing the lower ranking teams like Tottenham and Leeds United.
Man United and Chelsea have both been struggling to keep up with the top ranking teams because of many changes they’ve made to their starting eleven and coaching staff.
The top scorer so far is Erling Haaland of Man City with twenty goals. Bruno Fernandez, of Man United, has the most assists. David Raya, of Arsenal, holds the most clean sheets this season, and Igar Thiago, from Brentford, has been getting lots of attention with sixteen goals.
