HC Girls’ Basketball has started their preseason activities to get them ready for the upcoming season. The roster consists of new and returning players, one of them being a junior Kelsie Lawson. This is Lawson’s third year on the team and is the starting shooting guard. She is ready to see what this season has in store for her and the team.
“I am excited for new opportunities with my team,” Lawson said. “[Already] we are pushed harder and I feel very encouraged through this season so far.”
Many changes have been made this season, including a new coaching staff.
“Brian Tribble is our new coach,” Lawson said. “He is very encouraging and pushes us to be better teammates and players everyday.
The staff has made Lawson a team captain, so her roles and responsibilities are different from others on the team.
“[Being captain] makes me have to be a leader and show people what to do and help them learn,” Lawson said. “[I have to] be encouraging to all of my teammates and make sure everyone is included.”
With the new roster and talent coming into the program, Lawson wants to make sure they know that they are very important to the team.
“We have some really good middle schoolers that are coming in and playing varsity with us,” Lawson said. “I’m really excited to see what they have for us.”
This will be Lawson’s first year back after not playing her sophomore year. She has aspirations and goals that she hopes the team will be able to fulfill.
“[I hope] we grow and get more connected as a team,” Lawson said. “[I also] hope we win a lot of games and do well in post season play.”
Overall, Lawson is looking forward to playing with her team again and she hopes that this will be the team’s best year yet.
