Henry Clay’s Girls Basketball team has had quite the season. They have 21 wins and nine losses in regular season games. They are second in the district with six wins and three losses. The team has accomplished a lot this season, playing against many teams throughout the state.

“[The season has] gone pretty well,” HC varsity basketball player Lydia Van Metre said. “It’s been a roller coaster of events but we’re going strong. We play on Thursday so we are super excited.”

Van Metre values the bond with her teammates. Team chemistry is important when playing a sport. The team has to be able to communicate on and off the court in order to be successful.

“[My favorite part has been] probably how close we have all gotten,” Van Metre said. “We’ve played together since the 7th grade, but this is by far the closest we have ever been.”

Relationships with teammates are important, but also a player’s relationship with the game.

“I’ve kind of come to the point where I need [basketball],” Van Metre said. “It just makes me happy.”

Throughout Van Metre’s seasons as a Blue Devil she has had many highs and lows. She is proud of her accomplishments she had made this season.

“[My biggest accomplishment is] probably making All District Team this past week.”

Making All District Team is a major accomplishment. All District Team is a team of about 10 of the best players in a teams’ district. There is an All Region Team and an All State Team. The more players that are in a state, region, or district the harder it is to make the team

Van Metre is a senior this year, and it will be her last season as a Lady Devil.

“Junior season was rough,” Van Metre explains. “It was a real rough [one] for everyone I think, but this season I think has been the best, by far.”

Overall the Lady Devils’ season has been quite successful. Soon they will say goodbye to their seven seniors, but they are very proud of the contributions they have made to the team. Their next game is the district semi finals against Franklin Co. at Paul Laurence Dunbar at 6 pm on Thursday, March 7th.
