Following the finale of Stranger Things season five, and the final episode of the show, many of the show’s fans were left wanting more. Lots of conspiracy theories circulated throughout social media of a secret ninth episode. Netflix and Stranger Things’ social media platforms teased fans of this episode but left them disappointed without it’s release
The finale episode brought high emotion and new discoveries for fans. With the possible death of fan favorite Eleven and the awaited death of Vecna and the Mind Flayer. However, it was very confusing if the show was really over.
After Vecna died, Hawkins seemed to be different from what it normally was. Many acted like Vecna through the way they sat or dressed, all of the Wheeler family had the same haircut, and Steve started coaching baseball when he had only ever played basketball. It truly seemed like something was off about the finale and how Hawkins ended up.
During the final 10 minutes of the episode, Mike told his last story. He told Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max’s stories of them off in college and living their lives outside of Hawkins. He also told the story of how Eleven could still be alive, and many seemed to agree with his theory.
During an episode of season five, Lucas broke the fourth wall and said that he doesn’t believe in coincidences. Fans took this very seriously after the finale, and started creating theories of how there could be a secret ninth episode. Lots of signs pointed to the number seven leading to fans expecting a new episode released on January 7. However, this didn’t happen. This made many fans really disappointed because they were convinced there was another episode, even when it was almost certain there wouldn’t be.
Overall, the finale of Stranger Things seemed to disappoint a lot of fans, but truthfully it was a decent ending. It ended with very few deaths of fan favorite characters, the death of Vecna and the Mind Flayer, and the Upside Down being destroyed. Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max also got their final moment of closure and went on to live their lives in peace.
