Ainsley Sanger, FCCLA Chapter President, has continued to make an impact through her leadership roles and success in competition. She has led the club for the past two years, and has also taken on several regional positions, such as First Vice President and Vice President of Finance. In their recent STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) competition, Sanger has advanced her project and qualified for Nationals.
FCCLA competitive events are organized into three levels: regionals, state, and nationals. There is a wide array of events for members to participate in, and this year Sanger chose to do an online competition.
“The project that I specifically competed in was an FCCLA chapter website, so I made a website on Canva to highlight our chapter and how it aligns with national standards, as well as what we specifically do in our community,” Sanger said.
Since the project was hosted online, it automatically bypassed the regional round and moved straight to the state level.
It performed well at the state competition, and Sanger now has the opportunity to present it at the national level.
Last year, Sanger competed in a Fashion and Design STAR event alongside two partners. That event requires competitors to build a brand and a dress, which they then present at regionals as well as state, taking first place.
Sanger was a part of the first group of members when the HC FCCLA chapter was restarted. Prior to her freshman year, HC had not had an active chapter in years. Mrs. Claunch had previously led an FCCLA chapter at Madison Central, recruited several students during her first year at HC to reestablish the chapter, including Sanger.
“I started in FCCLA freshman year and I decided to continue into leadership positions because it’s just a fun club to be a part of and I’ve enjoyed it, and I just like being able to communicate with others in a meaningful way,” Sanger said.
As she has helped the club grow, Sanger has grown in her responsibilities within FCCLA. As Chapter President, she presides over the other officers as well as the general members. Sanger is responsible for overseeing their jobs, communicating with advisors, and organizing events.
With her position at HC, she also currently holds a regional position over finance. HC’s FCCLA Chapter is a part of Region 15, which is made up of Fayette County as well as several other surrounding counties. In this position, she manages several different budgets, as well as the region’s income from national and registration payments, and how those funds are being spent.
Overall, Sanger has been able to take on great leadership and has helped FCCLA to grow not only here at HC, but across Kentucky. In her three years in FCCLA, she has competed in multiple competitions such as her online STAR event this year and a Fashion and Design project last year. Sanger’s hard work and passion have made her a role model for the entire chapter and HC community.
