On October 19, 2025, the Louvre Museum in Paris, France was robbed in less than 10 minutes. This short robbery went unnoticed from 9:30 a.m. to almost 10:30 a.m., the same day. The thieves got away with eight items: an emerald necklace and earrings, two crowns, two brooches, a sapphire necklace, and a single earring linked to 19th-century Queens Marie-Amelie and Hortense. This remarkable theft has left the world speechless and confused on how this had gotten accomplished.
The thieves made off with around 88 million euros, or $102 million, worth of the french jewelry. They snuck in at 9:30 a.m., using a truck with a freight lift and dressed as construction workers. They broke in at the south end of the Apollo Gallery, which in turn triggered an alarm at 9:34 a.m. They went in and stole the eight pieces of jewelry and left out the same window they came in at 9:38 a.m.
This astounding time for such a complex robbery baffled many civilians hearing this story. This heist has been portrayed as lighthearted to social media, specifically with the generation z. Jokes and bits have been spreading across social media as more and more information has been released. Many people have joked about how insufficient the security was, to them stealing the jewelry themselves. Although many joked, the other half was shocked at such a crime.
In the following days, people have speculated and engrossed themselves to solve how this robbery had happened. Video footage of the thieves leaving the museum was released on October 21. This helped solidify how and when the Louvre was robbed and filled information that was missing slowly.
Despite this seemingly simple heist, over the past weekend, French authorities arrested two men who had DNA matched with DNA left at the museum. They were caught attempting to flee France. No further details have been disclosed on what is going to happen with the men in custody, but French authorities hope to get to the bottom of this case.
