Disney has recently been working on many new movies that are coming to theaters soon, including a live action Snow White, a live action Lilo & Stitch, Frozen III, and more. On November 27, Disney released Moana 2, which is a sequel to the original Moana that was released in 2016. The movie highlights Polynesian culture through the activities and costumes in the movie.
Audiences look forward to Auliʻi Cravalho who voices Moana and Dwayne Johnson who voices Maui. The two were featured in both movies. The actors work well together, and their chemistry helps the movie come together. The writers introduce many new songs throughout the movie. Some are solos, while others are duets. There are also new characters introduced: Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda as Moana’s sister, Simea, Rose Matafeo as Loto, David Fane as Kele, Hualālai Chung as Moni, and Awhimai Fraser as Matangi.
Moana 2 is about Moana going on a journey to try to defeat Nalo, the god of storms, who is guarding the island of Motufetu. Nalo’s goal is to keep all of the islands separated, so they never can meet each other. Moana rounds up a crew to go with her on the journey, leaving her family and island behind. The crew includes Loto, who builds boats, Kele, who knows the history of the people and islands, and Moni, who harvests crops. Along the way they get stuck in Matangi’s, the bat lady’s cave. Once they are able to get out, they encounter the Cacamoras and they form an alliance. If Moana can defeat Nalo, then they will help them get past a giant clam. Then, they reach Nalo. Moana and the crew stay on the boat and distract Nalo while Maui goes inside Nalo’s clouds and uses his hook to pull up the island. The island is now up and the other islands are now in contact with each other.
The movie was a great sequel to the original, but there was no sense of danger like the other movie. Moana and Maui faced many hardships in the first movie, and the dangerous scenes had audiences on the edge of their seats, but the second one did not. In the first movie, the songs were better, too. Moana 2 was, overall, an excellent movie with a satisfactory plot, but it left room for improvement.
