A week in review: HC Cafe delivers excellent cuisine

During fourth period in the cafeteria, the HC lunch staff provide students with free meals. Due to the amount of qualified students from HC, it was determined that free and reduced lunch would be provided during the 2023-24 school year for all Blue Devils. This excellent service also includes a variety of options everyday. As a guide for the week, we will rank our favorite meals to choose from.

#1 Orange Chicken-

On Monday, we chose the orange chicken plate. This includes fried boneless chicken bites battered in orange sauce, a tangy sweet mixture with hints of orange flavoring. These chicken pieces are placed over white rice, which is an excellent combination of flavor. As a side, we chose a cup of diced pears, which connected the fruit flavoring theme in our meal and gave us our necessary nutrients for the day. Overall, this dish was our favorite of the week, and it is something we highly recommend when offered. The crunchy chicken bites were cooked perfectly to our liking and we will be picking this lunch option continuously.

#2 Bosco Cheese Sticks-

On Thursday, we chose bosco cheese sticks with a side of sliced peaches. This was our first time trying the HC Cafeteria’s bosco sticks and we will be marking our calendars for the next date the cafeteria offers them. These breadsticks are served warm with melted mozzarella cheese filled inside of them and a parmesan cheese garnish on top. The cheese pull was similar to mozzarella sticks and it had an Italian flavor. We really enjoyed this option as fellow cheese lovers.

#3 Chicken Patty-

To all the Chick-fil-A fans… this meal is a perfect school alternative to a Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich. On Wednesday, the Chicken Patty was battered and cooked diligently with a great crunch in every bite. The buttery sesame seed bun was the excellent addition to this fried patty. We topped our patties with ketchup, adding tang to this meal. The side of shoestring fries blended excellently well with the chicken. Many avidly choose this meal for lunch, and we now understand why.

#4 Spaghetti-

On Tuesday, we chose spaghetti meat sauce with penne pasta. This option includes a garlic knot, which was extremely appetizing, especially when dipped into the creamy pasta sauce. As a side, we chose sweet potato shoestring fries. The fries were topped with cinnamon sugar, which blended perfectly with the flavor of sweet potatoes. The sweet potato fries have always been one of our favorite sides on the menu and are surely a unique option as well. Although the spaghetti wasn’t to our tasting, this dish is liked by many students throughout Henry Clay.

#5 Cheese and Beef Quesadilla-

As our final meal of the week, we had the cheese and beef quesadilla with a side garden salad. The quesadilla included melted nacho cheese, beef, and a homemade sauce. The tortilla resembled a calzone and was cooked to crispness. Although quesadillas are usually our meal of choice at certain restaurants, our simple taste buds didn’t agree with certain toppings for this dish, hence our rating of it.

We are extremely grateful for our hardworking cafeteria staff and had a splendid time rating the food they served this week.
