HC Soccer 2010 and 2019 state championships

HC soccer has been incredibly successful this past decade. Chiefly among them is their two state championships at the beginning and end of the decade. Both times they’ve won a championship, it’s been against Daviess County with a final score of 2-0. Both teachers who’ve been the head coaches are still HC teachers. Jason Behler won in 2019 as head coach and Tim Bernardi won in 2010 with Behler as an assistant.

Boys Lacrosse 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019 state championships

Boys Lacrosse has utterly dominated the competition. Their five championships in seven years are unprecedented, despite facing both private and public teams with well coached and funded  teams. Lexington Catholic, chief among them, and the 2018 Lacrosse Champions has unsurprisingly been the toughest foe for HC. However, HC successfully closed out the decade with an avenged loss in the 2018 championship game by crushing the incumbent Lexington Catholic 14-6.

Boys 2015 and 2016 Track and Field state championships

The Track & Field team won with a diverse team back to back. They were led by runners Asiah Smith, a record holder in the 100, 200, 400 meter sprints, and Dequan Robinson, another previous record holder in the 100 and 200 meter sprints.

AP Capstone

In the 2016-2017, Henry Clay officially became an AP Capstone school. This meant HC offered AP Seminar and AP Research. These classes aren’t traditional in style because they focus on students evaluating themselves and their peers. They then put out a final project with months of work behind it. Despite the course’s unorthodox style, it helps prepare students for college

Henry Clay has had its fair share of students becoming college athletes. A few have even taken their talents pro. One such person is Walker Buehler. A graduate of HC in 2012, he has gone on to pitch in the 2018 World Series for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also was a member of the 2014 Vanderbilt team that won the college world series.
