On March 2nd, the 97th Oscars streamed on ABC. The performances were great, especially “Defying Gravity” by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. They hit their high notes beautifully, and looked beautiful doing it. The red carpet, many people’s favorite part, had a range of interesting looks.
Some of the red carpet outfits were terrifically terrible:
First of all, let’s talk about Timothee Chalamet’s suit. It was a pale yellow that completely washed out his skin. His shoes didn’t even match, as they were black. To be completely honest, he closely resembled a banana. He also looked a little too similar to the man in the hat from “Curious George”, just without the hat.
Demi Moore wearing Giorgio Armani Privé was unsightly. I hated the overlap around her hips, and it didn’t go well with her skin tone at all. Speaking of her skin tone, her skin seemed to be tanned poorly, as one of her arms was a different color than the other.
Lily-Rose Depp’s dress was horrifying. The ruffles were seemingly placed randomly. The dress was seen through in some parts and not in others. It also looked too tight in certain areas and too loose in others. The only decent part was the fact that the jewelry matched.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, Zoe Saldana in Saint Lauren “brought the bubble hem back in major fashion on the red carpet of the 2025 Oscars on Sunday in Los Angeles.” But in reality, she looked silly. The dress just looked like multiple balloons stacked on top of each other. The semi-sheer bust was ugly and made no sense considering the rest of the dress. The gloves looked too tight on her and the seam stood out on her thumb. Her necklace had green on it, which made no sense considering her dress was red, unless she was going to a Christmas vibe.
Emma Stone’s dress hung way too loosely over her body, and the texture was horrendous. She honestly looked like she was trying to be a mermaid, but then continued the scales all the way up. The dress looks like it needs to be hemmed because the fabric gathers around her feet.
On the other hand, the some of outfits were just meant for the red carpet:
Elle Fanning’s was gorgeous. The lace was beautiful and the shape of the dress fit her. I loved the slight cape, or the fabric and the pop of black that stood out perfectly. I was unsure about the necklace at first, but it definitely goes well with the dress and the bracelet.
Cynthia Erivo’s outfit was absolutely stunning. The dress was a beautiful shade of green that went perfectly with her skin tone. The jewelry matched perfectly; from the piercings to the rings. Her nails were gorgeous with all the different designs. It also matched her character, Elphaba, in the movie Wicked. The character wears black the entire movie, and so the black dress went with her character. Overall, it was my personal favorite Oscars outfit.
Ariana Grande’s dress was bold and beautiful. That shade of pink went perfectly with her skin, and it went well with her character, Glinda. In the movie Wicked, Glinda wears pink the entire movie, and has a very “fluffy” personality. It also fit her body shape beautifully. The jewelry was simplistic but beautiful. It also went perfectly with Cynthia Erivo’s.
Selena Gomez also looked gorgeous at the Oscars. The pale pink color of the dress was perfect, and the jewels on them were to die for. The jewels were simple and covered the entire dress. The silver necklace, earrings, and rings all matched with each other. Her nails were simplistic but classy and beautiful.
Doja Cat’s outfit fit her personality perfectly. The dress was a beautiful leopard print, showed off her hourglass figure, and had a gorgeous slight train, or fabric that trailed behind her. The matching necklace and earrings, along with the nails, were just the perfect finishing touches.
Anok Yai’s feather boa stood out against the crowd. The contrast between the black boa and the rose gold color of the dress was gorgeous. The dress clung beautifully to her body and showed off its shape. The jewelry and nails were perfectly simplistic, and not too over the top.
