The Feb. 12 2020 SBDM meeting began with the adoption of agenda and minutes from the Jan. 15 meeting. The meeting continued with HC Counselor Rachael Howard who discussed her plans for this coming summer school session. Her plan/proposal was approved by the council.

HC Principal Paul Little followed with the good news report. Cheer and Dance did well at Nationals. Boys and Girls  Swim and Dive placed second at the KHSAA Regional Swim and Dive Tournament. HC student Jamari Taylor (CHECK SPELLING) placed first in the FCPS science fair. The football players had a successful signing day and the basketball team beat the number two team in Kentucky. HC graduate Langston Jackson is national athlete of the week. HC Orchestra and Band also had successful performances at All-State. The school play, Alice and Wonderland, was rescheduled to perform this weekend instead of last because of the missed school days. HC JROTC also has had a successful year in competitions. Finally, HC Swim and Dive coach received coach of the year.

HC Librarian Amanda Hurley presented the council with the Budget Committee reports where teachers could request the extra money to better their students’ education. The council approved the requests and no additional changes were made. The SCIF budget was also approved, and there was nothing to report with the student report.

HC Parent Representative David Cohen discussed what parents talked about at the PTA meeting regarding block scheduling. Conversation about allowing students and parents to see the different types of pathways students could follow was suggested. The meeting was concluded with public comment. HC Parent Dr. Margaret Readdy presented the council with data of what top schools in the state were on a traditional schedule versus a block schedule. Dr. Readdy also expressed concerns about student safety and the structure of the building.

The next SBDM meeting will be March 11 at 5:30 in the HC library.
