This school year, the Film Club is being brought back to HC. It has struggled to stay afloat in the past, but this time it seems to be coming back with a new inspiration for movies.
This year, HC senior EJ Behrens is the president of the Film Club. Behrens approached HC’s Jason Behler with the idea to bring it back as he was the sponsor in previous years.
“Mr. Behler seemed very excited to bring it back; he said that the club was a running thing and it just kind of died out due to uninterest and he was very excited to hear people were interested in the club,” Behrens said.
Behrens was very excited when Behler agreed. Behrens was asked her motivation for bringing the Film Club back to HC.
“Film Club is just kind of something that is an easy way to bring people together,” Behrens said. “Everyone loves to watch movies or everyone has a movie that they like to watch, so just kind of bonding with people through the movies in a school-related activity was just kind of a very interesting way to kind of create a community and I really wanted that to be back at HC.”
Behrens also wanted to express that a motivation for bringing it back was the fact she was not in the club before and wanted the chance to feel the community of Film Club.
“I was not in Film Club,” Behrens said. “I feel like this was one of my motivations to start it up again. I did not get that sense of community through film and I really wanted to get that and I wanted to spread that.”
Film Club is open to anyone and everyone who would like to watch and discuss movies with other people passionate about movies.
“Film Club is basically just a place where everyone can make friends watch movies together and discuss and discover new movies that they may have not thought of before or discover a love for movies they didn’t know before and just kind of find a place at HC,” Behrens said.
Though the whole list of movies that will be watched in Film Club is not out, the first three are already planned.
“Our first three movies that we are going to watch are fantastic, Mr. Fox, Jojo Rabbit, and The Florida Project,” Behrens said. “We have a list that will be revealed at our interest meeting and will just kind of be followed for the rest of the year,” Behrens said.
Everyone is welcome to join. The meetings are set to change, but on a regular schedule will be every Thursday in room 4, Behler’s room. For anyone wanting to join, there is a permission slip from Mr. Behler that must be collected, then they can go to the meetings.
