Each year, high school marching bands from across the country participate in the Bands of America (BOA) competitions against other schools. The marching band at HC, directed by Bill Kite and Jeff Bayerle, rehearses frequently in preparation for these.
“The KMEA state championship will take place on October 25, 2025,” Katie Slone, a freshman and a member of the HC Marching Band, said. “The state championship will be in Bowling Green, Kentucky.”
HC will be competing against several high schools across the state of Kentucky. This includes schools in and outside of Fayette County.
“I know a bunch of bands around here are performing that day, such as Lafayette [and] Dunbar,” Slone said. ”The band has worked very hard at practices to be able to do an amazing performance there.”
The marching band will be performing a show titled, “Capture the Flag,” which they have been rehearsing since the previous summer in July. It features vibrant visuals and various musical selections, including “Symphony No. 40” by W.A. Mozart, “Symphony No. 9″ by L. Van Beethoven,”Symphony No. 5” by Beethoven, “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” by Mozart, “Moonlight Sonata” by Beethoven, “Piano Concerto No. 21” by Mozart, and original music by Andrew Markworth.
HC has placed highly in previous contests this season, so there is hope for their success at Bowling Green on Saturday.
