On September 28, the NFL announced that Bad Bunny would be headlining the 2026 Super Bowl LX halftime show. This announcement followed the artist’s growing popularity, since 2016, and his guest performance at the 2020 Super Bowl. Bad bunny, a three-time grammy winner, was No. 1 on Billboard’s all genre top artist in 2022 and has been the top Latin artist for five years straight. He has had 113 songs chart on the Billboard top 100, and had the first entirely Spanish album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio in Puerto Rico, is 31 years old and 9 years into his career. He has had a passion for music from a young age, after singing in his school choir and eventually starting his career uploading music to SoundCloud. Following his first popular song, “Soy Peor”, in 2016, he has reached worldwide popularity with his music.
Bad Bunny is credited with helping Spanish-rap reach mainstream popularity in the U.S. This has led to his popularity in the genre and lent itself to him performing at the 2026 Super Bowl. Despite his popularity in the U.S, Bad Bunny has not performed in the 50 states during his recent tour. This is likely due to threats of ICE raids at his concerts, such as threats from Corey Lewandowski, special assistant to Kristi Noem, our Secretary of Homeland Security. “We will find you, we will apprehend you, we will put you in a detention facility, and we will deport you,” said Lewandowski.
Bad Bunny’s decision to perform has shocked and excited many. Bad Bunny’s scheduled halftime performance in the U.S has created even greater anticipation for the 2026 Super Bowl and is sure to be a show to remember.
