The HC Girls’ Volleyball team has been working to improve their game this season. Senior Sydney Cain has been on the team for 5 years, and hopes she can be remembered for years to come.
“We haven’t plateaued, we haven’t gone downhill,” Cain said. “I think that we [are] continuing to get a little better each game and that we have a desire to win.”
One of the biggest highlights has been the bond the players have built on and off the court.
“We’ve taken the initiative to team bond even outside of mandated team bonding,” Cain said. “Especially for the seniors, we’re cherishing all the last moments together.”
HC Volleyball is more than just a sport for the girls, it connects them and allows them to bond even outside of the gym and school.
“It’s important to make sure everyone is focused in practice, but also that we create a gym climate that is welcoming and supportive,” Cain said.
As one of the leaders, Cain’s role is to make sure every player knows they are valued, and that the younger players are the future of this team.
“[Annie Millar] is super tall and that’s an advantage we’ve been able to see on the court,” Cain said.
Millar along with other younger players are also stepping up, and Cain is hoping they step up and become leaders as the senior class leaves.
“I hope that we continue to improve on a consistent basis, and I hope that when we go to districts, we kick some butt,” Cain said.
The team’s biggest strength is their mentality. They have struggled at times with intensity against stronger opponents, but their ability to stay focused will give them an advantage in districts, and for years to come.
