Over four weeks from the season kickoff, HC Boys’ Soccer has secured wins against Lafayette, Ryle, Woodford County, Lexington Catholic and Great Crossing.
This has led the team, led by head coach Jason Behler, to become one of the most talked-about teams in the region. Coach Behler’s expectations help the players stay motivated and passionate about their goals for the season.
“The coach expects all the players to always put in their best effort no matter how hard the situation is….just try your best even if it’s only for 2 or 3 minutes,” said senior Muhammed Danso.
As defending state champions, the team has their sights set on taking the state title once again. Many teams would feel pressure, but HC hopes to turn the pressure into motivation.
“There isn’t any pressure on us, every city team wants to take out the state champion, but we know who we are and we can take on anyone else,” said Dieudonne.
Beyond the statistics, chemistry is one of the most important things on a soccer team. The HC team is currently rebounding from the loss of 12 seniors, but players are confident they can rebuild the chemistry as strong as ever.
“At the moment the chemistry isn’t perfect, but the season just started and chemistry is something that builds up over time. So by the middle of the season, we should be connecting very well,” said senior Espo Dieudonne.
“The chemistry is already good but coach Behler will help it to be even better,” said Muhammed Danso.
With a second state championship to prepare for, the recent performances of this team show just how much they want to win.
