At HC, the Blue Devils have a Psychology Club, a club for students who are interested in psychology that travels to mental hospitals for community service and career introduction. Sponsor, Jamie Clark, talks us through how the club started and how far it has come.
“When we started [the] Psychology Club, that predates me starting here,” Clark said.
Clark has managed to keep the tradition of Psychology Club going at HC, despite the negative influence of COVID-19.
“We’ve been going since 2012 with the exception of the time during the pandemic,” Clark said. “They are a hospital and they had to close down to any guests or anything.”
Although the pandemic caused setbacks, this school year has been a great year for more work with the club.
“We tried to encourage appropriate socialization,” Clark said. “Good social interaction, trying to get them to talk and converse appropriately with people.”
With a bunch of opportunities for the students involved, Clark mentions how they benefit from the club.
“Kids get community service hours for doing this,” Clark said.
With a great year for the club as a whole, Clark hopes for more students to join in the future.
“I would love for our parties to get more of a variety of students involved. We really want boys to start coming out,” Clark said.
To continue on the long-standing tradition of Psychology Club, Ms. Clark continues to grow the club for the students and for the patients they see monthly.
