The HC Boys’ Soccer team delivered a historic 2024 season, getting their fourth KHSAA State Championship and second under head coach Jason Behler. Finishing with a 21-3-4 record, the Blue Devils showcased a blend of discipline, offensive firepower, and senior leadership that set them apart on the state stage.
HC’s postseason journey began with a 3-0 victory over Frederick Douglass in the 42nd District final, followed by a 2-0 win in the 11th Region championship—their first regional title since 2019. In the state tournament, the Blue Devils beat Covington Catholic 2-1 in the first round, with Braden Cundiff scoring the decisive goal. They then crushed Campbell County 6-0 in the quarterfinals, setting the stage for a dominant 6-1 championship win over Louisville Collegiate.
Senior forward Marco Messerli led the offensive side with 20 goals and 18 assists, earning him the Kentucky High School Soccer Coaches Association’s Offensive Player of the Year and United Soccer Coaches All-American honors. Midfielder Connor Taylor was named the state tournament MVP, while Braden Cundiff and Will Potter also made big contributions throughout the season. Coach Behler was recognized as the Large School Coach of the Year, reflecting his massive role in the team’s success.
The 2024 season not only added a state title to HC’s storied soccer history but also highlighted the team’s unity. With key players stepping up in crucial moments and a coaching staff that fostered a winning mentality, the Blue Devils solidified their status as a powerhouse in Kentucky high school soccer.
