
No. 3 Kentucky faced off against No. 2 Tennessee in the Sweet 16 NCAA Tournament. While the game didn’t go as Kentucky fans had hoped, getting there was an accomplishment within itself. This was the first time in college basketball history that a whole new roster has made it to the Sweet 16. It is also the teams first time in the Sweet 16 since 2019.
Kentucky won their way to the Sweet 16 in a game against No. 6 Illinois with a score of 84-75. They ended the game with 14 steals, 18 assists, and 60% free throw average. Koby Brea was the top scorer, getting the team 23 points. In the end, it was a great game.
While in conference play, Kentucky beat Tennessee both times. This gave Kentucky fans hope of advancing to the Elite Eight against their rival. While this did not happen, it was not a horrible game. It was played close to home in Indianapolis, allowing Kentucky fans to travel and support the team. The game ended with Kentucky losing by 13, and the score being 78-65.
Overall, Kentucky had a promising season. Plenty of attention was brought forth with it being Mark Pope’s first year coaching at UK. Many were skeptical, however, the team and him showed up and ended the season with a 24-12 record. The way the team played in the tournament and overall season excites Kentucky fans for next year’s season.
