In President Trump’s first few weeks of office, he issued a grant to freeze federal funding and grants. Word of this freeze spread quickly, raising concern all throughout America. However, a federal judge temporarily blocked this freeze, causing the Trump administration to walk back with the memo.
There are currently over 2,600 programs that may experience a halt in funding, some of which include school meals for low-income students, U.S. Agency for International Development foreign assistance, the WIC nutrition program for pregnant women and infants, and a reintegration program for homeless veterans.
The freezing of these funds is causing confusion all over the country, especially among parents of students. With no more federal funding for school breakfasts and lunches, some students will not be able to get food at school.
Even though the funding wasn’t frozen completely, over 20,000 children in 23 states have been faced with funding delays, according to a survey by the National Head Start Association.
This delay of funding is likely to cause major issues among different programs, however, this funding freeze isn’t going into full effect quite yet.
