The 2025 NFL Championship Weekend saw the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs punch their tickets to Super Bowl 59 with dominating performances in their respective conference finals.
The Philadelphia Eagles rolled past the Washington Commanders in a 55-23 victory to secure their Super Bowl spot. Washington started strong, with rookie quarterback, Jayden Daniels, leading an impressive 18-play, seven-minute opening drive that ended in a field goal. However, the Eagles quickly responded with a one-play, 60-yard touchdown from Saquon Barkley, shifting the momentum.
Barkley was unstoppable, scoring three touchdowns as the Eagles’ offense scored a total of seven rushing touchdowns, tying the record for the most rushing touchdowns in a playoff game. This ultimately overwhelmed Washington and they struggled to keep up. Despite a few flashes of brilliance from Daniels, the Commanders’ defense couldn’t contain Philly’s ‘tush push’ at the goaline, scoring every time they were inside the five yard line. The win marked the Eagles’ return to the Super Bowl.
Daniels’ insane rookie campaign ended, but the No. 2 overall pick led Washington to its first playoff win in 20 years and to the NFC Championship, bringing hope to the franchise.
In the AFC Championship, the Kansas City Chiefs held off the Buffalo Bills for a 32-29 victory, with Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen putting on an MVP-caliber performance. The Chiefs have been talked down on because of the controversial flags thrown late in the game, but in the end Allen wasn’t able to go down the field and score on the game-winning drive. Despite trailing in total yardage, turnovers, and time of possession, Mahomes accounted for 245 passing yards, a passing touchdown, and two rushing touchdowns. His playmaking ability and Chris Jones on the defense kept the Chiefs in control.
The Bills, led by Allen, fought with a great effort, but Kansas City’s defense led by Jones, stepped up at key moments to secure the win. With the victory, the Chiefs are now headed to their third Super Bowl in five years.
The Eagles and Chiefs will meet in Super Bowl 59, a rematch of the 2021 Super Bowl, where Kansas City narrowly defeated Philadelphia 38-35. With both teams at the top of their game, this promises to be an exciting showdown. Both teams have high-powered offenses, strong defenses, and elite quarterbacks with Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes. The stage is set for a thrilling Super Bowl 59.
