The HC Fellowship of Christian Athletes, also known as FCA, is one of the many clubs that operate around HC. The group meets weekly before school, and practices prayer as well as personal conversation. FCA is sponsored by HC staff member Tim Bailie, although the organization is also heavily student led.
The FCA operates inside and outside of school hours, although Bailie is less involved with meetings done outside of the building.
“I’m not as familiar with outside of school stuff,” Bailie said. “There’s meetings between schools where different FCAs get together and do things, but the meetings that happen on campus are on Tuesdays from 7:55 AM to 8:20 AM.”
While FCA is predominantly a religious organization, the group also focuses on the growth of community, and membership isn’t subject to only those who are heavily religious.
“[FCA is] community building and faith building,” Bailee said. “But all people are welcome. You don’t have to be an athlete or you don’t have to be a Christian to join. If you’re interested or seeking community with athletes or faith-minded peers, we’d love to have you.”
Bailee enjoys sponsoring FCA, and he’s also been able to grow closer to students through the organization, as well.
“[I have enjoyed] getting to build relationships,” Bailee said, “with students outside of the students I know in my classes.”
The HC FCA’s next meeting will be on the morning of Tuesday, December 17th, at 7:55 AM.
