As the winter and holiday season comes many people enjoy donating to spread cheer. Not everyone is as fortunate as some and it can be good to help them out. This winter season there are many ways to give to those in need. It could be donating your used coats to the Salvation Army or getting a kid a Christmas present with the Angel Tree program.
As a person grows older or trends start to change, so do the clothing that they wear. Those old clothes can be given to those who may need it. Not everyone can afford to purchase a winter coat, gloves, or a sweatshirt to keep them warm this winter. You can donate those clothes to places like the Salvation Army and Lexington Rescue Mission. In addition, Lila Kidder is doing a clothing bin at HC and Liberty Elementary.
Another way to give back is through food drives. There are many organizations that do this during the winter. HC is conducting a food drive this year. Canned goods and non perishable items are the best to be donated. You can also donate to God’s Pantry, Hope Center, or the Salvation Army. To go one step farther you can always volunteer at one of these places to help prepare and give out the food bags.
A big thing during this holiday season is Angle Trees. This is a program organized by the Salvation Army. In this you can pick a kid from the tree displayed in the shop and go shopping for them. No one should be without a gift this season. You can find these trees all around Kentucky. They are located in certain Walmarts, Fayette Mall, and even Caramanda’s Bake Shoppe. It doesn’t have to be an extravagant gift, but anything helps.
Overall, there are many ways to give this winter. You can go onto the websites of the places listed above to learn more about how to help. Many people also look around their community to see if they can be involved. Many Churches sometimes hold food banks and things like this during the season. Some people go as far as starting their own donation organization.
