Walker Buehler’s name is known by almost everyone now. The two-time All-Star pitcher just won the 2024 World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers. But for the students at HC where he went to school, his win means so much more. It shows kids at the school that big dreams can start in their hometown.
Buehler started his baseball journey at HC. When Walker was playing at HC he was a star pitcher with scouts and recruiters always watching him. He ended up going to the University of Vanderbilt and even won a college world series there. Then he got drafted by the Dodgers 24th overall in the 2015 draft.
The students at HC are super excited about his win. It makes them feel like they can achieve their own goals too. If someone grew up and was raised in the same town and walked the same halls as the students today then it puts a thought that we can do it too.
Buehler’s hard work and talent got him to the top, but he still talks about where he came from. He tells people how important it is to never give up and keep working hard, no matter what. It showed in the World Series as he came in to close the game in the 9th inning, even though he is usually a starting pitcher, he worked hard and wanted to win, showing anything is possible if you put the work in.
For HC and all the kids there, Walker’s World Series win isn’t just about baseball. It’s about believing in yourself and knowing that even if you’re from a small place, you can do big things. He’s made his school and his city proud, and he’s shown everyone that dreams really can come true.
