The HC Boys’ Soccer team took on Louisville Collegiate in the state championship on November 2nd. They won 6-1.This ended their season with a 23-3-3 record, ranking second in the state, and ranking seventh in the nation. Connor Taylor, a junior on the team, won MVP at the KHSAA State Tournament.
“I wasn’t nervous,” Taylor said. “It was just another game.”
During the first half, neither HC or Louisville Collegiate scored leaving the score 0-0 at halftime. Finally, in the second half, senior Marco Messerli scored the first goal.
“I was a little nervous, but we had a better chance in the first half, so I wasn’t really worried about [not scoring],” Taylor said. “I knew it would come eventually, and then obviously it came and we scored six [goals].”
After HC’s win, Messerli, Taylor, and junior Braden Cundiff were named to the All Tournament team. Messerli was also named Offensive Player of the Year.
“I feel fine, it’s not that big of a deal [after being named to the All Tournament team],” Taylor said.
This season, HC soccer team will be losing 11 seniors including Marco Messerli, Henry Crawford, Curtis Blanche, Nathan Adkins, James Clay, Elliot Tiennot, Vincent Wakilongo, Lawson Shrensker, Jack Clifford, Ethan Long, and Nash Florence.
“Other teams will obviously still be losing seniors too,” Taylor said. “We are losing about five crucial starters, but we should be fine. We will probably still be the best team in the region.”
HC hopes to bring the same fight they had last season to next season in hopes of winning next year’s state championship.
“I hope [we go to the State Championship next season],” Taylor said. “If we win regions, then we will make it to state.”
The HC Boys’ Soccer team has had a very successful season and they hope for the same results in the seasons to come.
