HC has many clubs, teams, and activities. While many of these organizations have been around for a very long time, some have only recently come into existence. One of these clubsis the Ultimate Frisbee Club, which was founded this year.
The sponsor of the Ultimate Frisbee Club is Ryan Sparks, an English teacher at HC. He was asked to sponsor the club by some of his past students, who had recently founded the Ultimate Frisbee Club.
“‘A group of Academy Sophomores [asked me to sponsor the club],” Sparks said, “Olivia Hawes, Emaline Mau, Anne Hankins, and Ava Greinke. They’re all great people, always encouraging, kind, and uplifting.”
Practices for the Ultimate Frisbee Club are currently once a week, however there are plans to expand the number of practices. Despite this, membership is low-commitment and students are not required to go to every practice.
“We meet every Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 PM,” Spark said, “and we are considering adding another practice sometime during the week. We normally stretch and run drills before scrimmaging every practice. It’s a good idea to wear a black or white shirt and cleats to practice, if you have them, though they are not required.”
Although the club has yet to participate in any competitions, that will soon change. According to Sparks, the club will soon be competing at local tournaments.
“There are a few tournaments in the Lexington area,” Sparks said, “and the girls on our team have already committed to a tournament next semester.”
Sparks is enjoying his tenure as the sponsor of the club, and he plans on continuing to sponsor it as long as he is able to. For those interested in joining, the club has posted a QR code around HC which allows students to join a groupme that keeps members updated about practices.
