Next year HC is looking to change from a six period day to a block schedule with four classes each day. This allows students to have more classes and have different opportunities in school. HC will change to this schedule next year. Jordan Tarrence, a guidance Counselor for HC is a part of the process of changing to this new schedule.
“[Next year, HC will be on a block] this means students will have four classes on “A” day and then four classes on “B” day,” Tarrence said. “So instead of taking six classes per year, now students will take eight classes each year.”
The plans for the schedule next year has a layout, though it is still being worked on.
“[While we do not know the exact schedule], it will involve having four classes each day.” Tarrence said. “Lunch will be during third hour and the new schedule will allow us to potentially go to four lunches instead of three. Once we change to our new schedule, all six FCPS high schools will be on this schedule”
With this being said The new schedule will offer students more class opportunities.
“[Yes] there will be new classes at HC once we move to block scheduling.” Tarrence said. “The classes we offer will still be dependent on what students sign up for during scheduling, but there will be new options for students to choose from.”
Preparing for this upcoming year, students need to be ready, and looking to expect a new way of learning.
“In February, the Counselors will meet with all students to schedule for the 2025-26 school year. At this time, students will get schedule cards with information on the new schedule and lists of the classes they can choose from.” Tarrence said. “ There are many questions about next year that we do not have the answer to, but there is a committee working to make the change to a new schedule as smooth and successful as possible. As a Counselor, I am excited about the opportunities the new schedule will provide to all of our students at Henry Clay.”
