As the regular season comes to an end, senior Meredith Adkins awaits senior night festivities. Adkins has been a part of the HC Girls’ Volleyball team for four years and has made many attributions to the team. Adkins plays libero, which is a defensive position. Senior Night is set to start at 7:30 on Tuesday, October 15th, against West Jessamine, with senior night celebration before.
“[At the game] we’re gonna walk down the court with our families,” Adkins said. “Hopefully we can all celebrate in the locker room [after we win].”
Adkins looks forward to the festivities, but is sad about leaving her teammates behind next year.
“The connection [with the team] is a lot stronger off and on the court,” Adkins said. “It makes playing with each other super easy.”
The bond that the team has makes some challenges easier to adapt to. It allows them to rally together and meet their end goal of winning the set.
“There’s been a lot of adversity with people getting hurt,” Adkins said. “The lineups are changing but [besides that the season has] been good.”
Adkins is trying to take every opportunity this season, since this season will be her last playing at HC.
[The season] goes by really fast,” Adkins said. “Don’t take it for granted and cherish the friendships you make.”
Adkins participated in many things, but she has a difficult time picking a favorite.
“ Freaky Fridays [is my favorite tradition],” Adkins said. “We dress up and go all out [with the theme], it’s a lot of fun.”
Adkins values all of the bonds that she has with the team. Being close with the team makes playing more enjoyable.
“[I will miss] the relationships that [playing on the team] gives you and the coaches,” Adkins said.
Adkins doesn’t plan on playing collegiately, but maybe for a club in the future. Even though her high school volleyball career is coming to a close, she is glad that she was a part of this team.
