An annual tradition at HC is the staff and student basketball game. The College and Career Readiness Coordinator, Ciera Bowman, has been running this event for about three years. This year, it will be held on October 25th during 6th hour. The tickets will be 3 dollars and will be sold in the lunchroom.
“The game will be played in halves and the referees will consist of Coach Tarrence [and] a student that’s a senior who knows about basketball or he’ll get another staff member,” Bowman said. “[The halves are] time adjusted. It’s not the full half you get on a basketball team. We [will] have a halftime show [as well].”
With the staff having a reffing job, students and faculty players have mostly chosen their teams too.
“[The student players have] mostly [already been chosen],” Bowman said. “I have team captains for the students and the same with the faculty players.”
There was an email sent out to faculty asking for volunteers to play in the game, which is how most of the staff players were chosen.
“Mostly, it’s a lot of the same teachers,” said Bowman. “We even have new staff [like] Mr. Canter, Ms. BJ Martin, Ms. Smith, [who] are all going to be playing.”
Along with the new additions of teachers, cheerleaders are going to be attending the game for the first time.
“This year, for the first time, there will be cheerleaders at the game,” said Bowman. “Claunch is going to be having a cheering section.”
Cheering for the students and staff will have a big impact on the game. The more students attending, the better game it will be.
“We are trying to figure out how we can maybe use Ebucks,” said Bowman. “Just in case, for some students [who] are not able to afford a ticket because we want as many students, if not all, to come.”
There will be posters, announcements, and emails sending out information about the game. Ms. Bowman will also be available to answer any questions. They would like as many students as possible to attend.
