The HC Boys’ Soccer team has had an excellent start to their season. Their record is currently 11-2-2, which is a very good record to have. Marco Messerli is a senior and has put many years toward the program. They have competed against very tough opponents, but they are excited and looking forward to the next couple of weeks.
“We play Saint X and Trinity next week”, said Messerli. “Saint X is pretty good this year, and Trinity hasn’t lost to any team in the state. They lost to a team in Cleveland, but they’re really good.”
Although they are playing very tough teams next week, they are still trying to make improvements from past games.
“We have difficulty playing teams that sit back”, said Messerli. “We are a possession based team and we have difficulty scoring sometimes. Lafayette, we drew. Last night against Woodford Co, we drew. In Bowling Green, we lost.”
The team has many strengths, but there are still some things that they need to improve on.
“We’ve been leaking a lot of weak goals recently, so probably scoring,” said Messerli. “Probably not allowing any more weak goals, although we do play Saint X and Trinity so they will be hard. Also, figuring out how to communicate and when to communicate on the field.”
Messerli explains the team’s difficulties while trying to stay positive with the few games they have left.
“We have three regular season games left,” said Messerli. “[We want to get] everybody healthy and positive before the post season because district play starts after fall break.”
This will be Messerli’s last season as a Blue Devil.
“I think I may be the only one who plays in college,” said Messerli. “I’m not even sure I will.”
Messerli and the HC Boys’ Soccer team have been very successful with their season, and they hope that their fellow Blue Devils will show up for their last games in season games next week. The boys play Saint X High School on October 1st and they play Trinity High School on October 3rd. Both games start at 8pm and are at home.
