Homecoming 2024 is coming up, and the student council is preparing for a fun event for students. Senior officers Chris Barreiro, Kendall Craig, and Katherine Hudson, as well as student council sponsor Philnisha Lindsey are very excited for Homecoming this year.
“We are excited this year, ” Lindsey said. “Officers have worked really hard, and have helped me, [this] being my first year.”
This year the senior officers have been working very hard to put together a fun event for students.
“We are meeting three times a week for Homecoming,” Lindsey said. “Just because we want to make sure that we give people what they want, the students, and the officers have really been big on wanting to deliver.”
The Homecoming game is coming up, and the Homecoming court, made up of students in each grade, is going to be announced.
“[The game is] September the 20th, [on] Friday.” Lindsey said. “[The game is at] 7:30,” Craig said.
The Homecoming court will proceed at halftime, starting with the freshman and ending with the seniors.
“The freshman prince and princess are Cooper Dickerson and Sydney Roberts. Sophomore prince and princess are Zykarion Owens and Mila Carter. Junior prince and princess are Angelo Dilorenzo and Molly Nall,” Lindsey said. “There are eight total nominees for king and queen and they are Gabriel Agill, Luke DiNardo, Ty Clark, and Blessing Madi for king and for the queen Nakari Ellington, Ava Wilson, Amina Abdell Salam, and Eli Hurley.”
The Homecoming dance is the following day, September 21st, in the HC Cafe.
“The theme for Homecoming this year is Enchanted Forest,” Barreiro said. “Homecoming [dance] is from 8-11 pm,” Lindsey said.
The student council had different themes that they were deciding between, but they ended up choosing Enchanted Forest.
“We had a bunch of [students] come together with the Student Council Board,” Barreiro said. “We all decided from [the] different themes, and Enchanted Forest was the top one.”
Students can choose to dress up with the theme, or can choose to wear different colors if they want.
“They should wear whatever they feel most comfortable in,” Craig said. “And if students want to match the theme they are more than welcome to.”
Students can also choose to bring an outside guest to the dance, but there are requirements for that.
“[They can] only [bring a guest] if they fill out the guest form and turn it in before purchasing their guest ticket,” Hudson said. “They have to have their student ID, and they have to have their principal sign it.”
Overall, the student council as well as students are very excited for the dance this year. Lindsey and the student council have put in a lot of work to provide a great dance for students.
