Now that the school year has begun, so has the fall sports season. All of HC’s sports teams encourage students to come support their fellow Blue Devils, either at home or away. Football is one of HC’s most attended sports. When at a sports event, students are expected to show respect, be on their best behavior, and cheer loud for the Blue Devils.
“[Students show support] by standing and cheering all the time and being [at the game]”, student section leader, Ava Wilson said. “Students need to be rowdy, but respectful and [with] no hate comments.”
At the game students cheer freely and the student section leaders will conduct numerous cheers for the student section to repeat.
We’ve just kept the [chants] from the years before, but this year we’re adding three new ones”, Wilson said. “Some we just came up with on our own or we got from other schools on TikTok.”
At the game, there are many places to sit and cheer from. Students could sit in the bleachers, stand by the concession stand, or along the fence line. HC students are encouraged to sit in the student section.
“We have [the student section blocked] with caution tape”, Wilson said, “and posters [which read] ‘the Devils Den’ (football field) at home games. If you’re looking at the bleachers, [the student section is] on the left far side corner. Seniority does apply: Seniors in the front freshman in the back.”
When sitting in the student section, students are expected to cheer loud, but students should also support the Blue Devils by dressing up according to the theme of the game.
“[Students may wear] whatever the theme requires”, Wilson said. “So if it’s a white out, wear white, [if the theme is] USA, wear USA. We have a student section group chat. We will just say the theme and time. We come up with new themes every week.”
There is a theme to the football games even when the game is away. At away games, the students have the same expectations as they do at home games.
“For away games, HC students would sit on the visiting side bleachers”, Wilson said. “We sit on either ends of the bleachers.”
Although football games are mostly on Friday nights, some games are on the weekends and even in different counties.
“[The football schedule could be found on] Group Me or the football Instagram,”Wilson said.
There are many rules when it comes to supporting any HC sport, but showing out for your Blue Devils makes the perfect Friday night.
