With the fall sports season getting into full gear, the HC Football team is looking forward to another exciting season. As practices and games have begun, the team is excited about the chemistry they have built up this season, and the new coaches they have welcomed in the offseason. Despite their records from previous seasons, the team is optimistic about their upcoming schedule for this year, and is looking to compete with other city teams.
Senior and captain Luke Dinardo has been on the team for all four years of his highschool career. Dinardo is excited about how close the group has grown over this past offseason, and how many new faces there are on the team.
“We got a lot of work in the offseason together as a team,” Dinardo said. “We got a lot of new kids, so I feel like we’ve got a team that can win games.”
Dinardo also mentions a new staff member that joined the team, and the impacts he thinks the new coach will have on the football program.
“One of the coaches we brought in was Coach Zuckerman, and he coached a semi-pro team,” Dinardo said. “We got a completely new defensive playbook and he’s definitely going to make an impact.”
The team has a number of city opponents that they have yet to play this season. These are the games that Dinardo thinks HC can compete the best in, and the ones he’s got circled on his calendar.
“Lafayette, Creek, and Dunbar,” Dinardo said. “Those are the games I think we can compete in.”
Notably, this year’s team lacks the size and athleticism that many opposing schools have. Dinardo speaks on the adjustments that are required to minimize these disadvantages.
“We have a lot of tough games, and in a lot of those games we have less size,” Dinardo said. “So we have to have less mental errors.”
The HC football team plays their third game of the season this Friday, September 13th at George Rogers Clark High School, and is looking to build on their chemistry to have a productive season.
