Throughout the many games the HC seniors have played, they’ve experienced triumphs, defeats, and plenty of competition. But one feeling remains. The feeling of enjoyment when playing soccer. Avery Allen and Natalie Hoten have been prime examples of this sentiment.
“I have loved soccer my whole life.” Allen continues, “I have played soccer since I was seven. I have [enjoyed playing].”
As Allen continues to grow into her final year at HC, she still cherishes her and Hoten’s memorable moments with their team.
“Before every home game we do team dinner, so the other night we had Chipotle for dinner and that is always fun because we eat and talk,” Allen explained. “We have a big community for sure.”
Similarly, Hoten mentions her enjoyment for the team. She even goes as far as to mention her excitement for the future members and some advice to share.
“Be confident,” Hoten mentions. “[And] be yourself and always be friendly. We are friends with everyone.”
While Hoten’s words promote lifelong values, Allen keeps advice for incoming players.
“If you just give in your effort at tryouts and come to our preseason conditioning, then that is going to show the coaches that you are here to play,” Allen says. “They are going to take that into consideration.”
During the last year for the seniors, college is a main focus. As the year continues, the girls have big decisions for life after HC.
“I don’t [want to play pro], I just want to focus on school,” Hoten says. “I know a lot of my friends are playing in college and I will be going to their games to support them.”
While Hoten doesn’t plan on playing in college, Allen plans to continue playing throughout college and even to professional levels. Preparing for college is always nerve-wracking for seniors and juniors, but enjoying the year is also important. As their last year continues, the seniors plan to spend every minute enjoying this year with their friends and peers.
