Principal Little retired from the role of Henry Clay principal last school year after 7 years as head principal and a previous 11 years as an associate principal. His new job, still within FCPS, is as an administrator at Crawford Middle School.
“The biggest difference is that not being in charge is so stress-free,” Little said. “When I leave work, I really leave work and can give my children my undivided attention.”
“I come [to Crawford], I work hard, do everything I can to support all the staff, the principals, the students, and the teachers.” Little furthers. “When I leave, I’m off duty and that’s that. It’s a pretty big relief after 18 years at Henry Clay.”
While he was a strong leader at Henry Clay, the role of principal is demanding.
“You’re going a hundred miles an hour, all day long, putting out fires.” Little said. “You go home, you’re thinking about the job; you wake up in the middle of the night thinking about the job.”
With a nine-year-old, fifteen-year old, and seventeen-year old still at home, Little is pleased the new job allows him to spend more time with his family, but while he is enjoying his new role he reminisces on his time at Henry Clay.
“I love Henry Clay and I love you guys,” Little said. “I miss getting on that intercom and telling you that too.”
A Henry Clay Blue Devil through and through, he wishes the senior class and student body the best.
“Go through life trying to cultivate a wise mind, a kind heart, and a spirited soul,” Little said. “Be kind, be happy, and everything else will work itself out, I promise.”
