The DanceBlue Mini Marathon is an upcoming charity event here at HC. Head Chair of DanceBlue Senior Evelyn Dyer, is very excited for this year’s Mini Marathon. The Mini Marathon will be on November 10th from 5-10pm in the cafeteria.
“At Henry Clay we have a 5 hour Mini Marathon,” Dyer said. “There are themed hours and it’s in the cafeteria, our goal is to fundraise for DanceBlue.”
DanceBlue isn’t something that is just at Henry Clay. The University of Kentucky holds its own marathon to also fundraise money.
“DanceBlue is an entirely student-run organization that fundraises year-round for the DanceBlue Hematology/Oncology Clinic and culminates in a 24-hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon,” According to danceblue.org, the organization’s website.
At HC the goal for DanceBlue is to add-on to the money that the UK has already made for their Marathon.
“Last year, [the amount raised] was around 25000 dollars,” Dyer said. “This year I would love to reach that goal, possibly exceed it.”
Even though DanceBlue has continued to fundraise money for pediatric cancer, they did face some challenges from the COVID pandemic.
“We stopped having our in-person Mini Marathons,” Dyer said. “In 2020, we had a virtual mini marathon that was over two days. That was over a platform similar to Zoom, and then the next year we still weren’t able to hold it, but we had another event, our field day event.”
DanceBlue is looking forward to the Mini Marathon this year. When students register they are helping go towards a great goal, as well as when they fundraise. Past students have always enjoyed their time, and there is no expectation that will change again this year.
